A capsule wardrobe. I think I would need two hands to count the times that I have started a capsule wardrobe, or said that I was starting a capsule wardrobe but I have never followed through. Maybe because I am a thrifting addict, or because I am flaky and decide to change my style at the beginning of every week- but I always bailout. NOT THIS TIME!
What exactly is a capsule wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe is a curated closet full of all of your favourite pieces appropriate to the current season. Often limited to 37 pieces including shoes, bags and coats, we are encouraged to choose a neutral palette for the pieces and get creative with outfit combinations.
I have a pretty small closet that is half-filled with a dresser and a quarter with my boyfriend’s clothing, so it is not as though I have a huge wardrobe in the first place. However, the clothes that are hanging in the closet are probably not the ones getting worn because if we are going to be completely transparent… Most often I just grab my clothes out of the dryer, or the clean laundry basket at the end of my bed that never get properly put away.
Hanging in my closet are some dresses reserved for weddings and events, a few shirts that I never wear but feel like I need, and a pair of pants that I bought a size too small as motivation. Just stuff to fill space.
But I want to do better. I need to do better. Because every time I look at that closet all I see is my internal stress being externally manifested, which is not a great way to start the day!
So I am going to try again. Only this time I have it in writing for the world to see (Yikes!). I will be narrowing down my closet to under 37 items for 30 days and bringing you along on my journey to hold me accountable!
What does your closet look like? When you look at your closet do you see the organization you hope for going into 2021? Or does it stress you out? I challenge you to join me and Marie Kondo your life! Tag me in your journey and follow mine:
